Caroline Shotton - Henry VIII

The idea for this collection of work came about while I was revisiting the Moosters series as preparation for the camels, zebras and giraffes in my last collection. I enjoyed the level of detail in the faces of the new animals and after a break from the cows, wanted to reinvent the structure of their faces in this new series of bovine art. I used an amalgamation of portraits for reference, together with tailoring and jewellery design books for the detail on the clothing and the brooches. I read biographies to get a sense of their personalities so as to better convey them in the paintings.
